When the Vasudhara or Earth Star Chakra Is Flowing: Signs of Being Earthed

The most immediate marker of a flowing Vasudhara (Earth Star Chakra) is a quiet, inherent sense of belonging to Earth — not the belonging you earn by fitting in or performing well, but the older, deeper belonging of just being here, as an Earthling.

It can feel like:

  • A felt-sense that you are an Earthling — that your place here does not need to be justified or earned;

  • A strong sense of being anchored in your body and in place … the body as home, not as something you are renting or resisting;

  • An ease with settling into new environments — new houses, new cities, new landscapes greet you rather than resist you;

  • A sense of being humanly-divine and divinely-human — your divine and human experiences of self held as one thing, rather than split into two conflicting things.

A flowing Vasudhara Chakra does not need proof of belonging. It carries belonging as its foundation.

When the Vasudhara Is Blocked: Signs of Being Un-Earthed

This post is about what happens when that "not quite arriving" becomes a chronic state. When the Vasudhara flow is choked, dimmed, or shut down, it rarely announces itself with a dramatic symptom. Instead it hums in the background of everything. It shapes how the world feels - what we notice, what we chase, what we can't seem to finish, and what we treat as real.

Meet the Vasudhara: The Earth Star Chakra

Before the seven chakras we often hear about … before the red spinning wheel at the base of the spine, before the crown of a thousand petals, there is another chakra. It sits below the body, roughly 1 to 2 feet (or 20-60 cm) below the soles of your feet, depending on what your energy field is doing on a particular day.

It is sometimes called: the Earth Star, the zeroth chakra, or the Vasudhara Chakra. Though it's the easiest to overlook (it's not even inside the body, after all), it's the one that makes the rest of the chakra system workable for beings like us — living on this planet, in these bodies.

This is the first of a four-part series on the Vasudhara Chakra. In this post, we will introduce you to what it is, what it does, and why it matters. In the posts that follow, we'll cover what it feels like when the Vasudhara is blocked, what it feels like when it's flowing well, and some practices for tending the connection.

Meet Your 9 Chakras: A Map of Your Energy Body

The chakras are best described in two groups: Group A are the seven chakras that we know best - they regulate how we express life force energy WITHIN our embodiment. Group B include the Earth and Soul Star Chakras, and the Heart Chakra - these chakras connect us to the flow of life force BEYOND our embodiments - they are our transpersonal chakras. The Heart Chakra fits into both groups, because it is our relational and integration chakra.

The nine chakras we work with form a complete energetic architecture, spanning from below our feet to above the crown of our heads. Together, they create a living bridge between Earth and Cosmos — between the most grounded, embodied experience of being human and the widest reaches of soul and universal consciousness. Each centre has its own character, its own gifts, its own territory. And each one is part of a single, integrated whole.

What an energy Chakra actually is …

Our chakras move the life force that keeps us alive.

Life force — prana, chi, ruh, mana, the God frequency — is the pulse of life moving through the universe. It does not belong to any one tradition, though every tradition has felt it and found words for it. It runs through each of us, through water and air, through trees and soil, through every critter and star and being. We can draw it directly from the universe, and we share it with each other in ways we are only beginning to understand.

Our energetic system draws from three main streams, which combine to form the life force we carry in our bodies.

Life Force Energy: The Pulse That Runs Through Everything

Our chakras move the life force that keeps us alive. A chakra isn't a thing — it's a flow. The Sanskrit word translates loosely as "wheel," but it may be more accurate to picture a chakra as a small whirlpool: a place where life force energy gathers, spins, transforms, and moves on. When our chakras are flowing freely, we feel it — as vitality, as clarity, as the particular ease of being fully present in our own lives.

Our chakra system is where our energy and physical selves intersect and interact. Our chakras are how the body arranges the movement of energy within our specific embodiment. They direct our life force in different patterns, depending on where we are evolving, expanding and ascending. How that energy flows attunes us to a particular range of experiences and possibilities. And those experiences and the paths we choose, in turn, influence and affect the way life force moves through us. Think of our chakra system as an intimate and ongoing conversation with the universe, and with everything around us. When that conversation is open and unobstructed, life tends to feel like it's meeting us — ideas arrive, connections form, the body feels at home in itself
